Space, facilities and personnel support
The IATSL
The Intelligent Assistive Technology and Systems Lab (IATSL), part of UofT, is the world class research laboratory of my supervisor Dr. Mihailidis. It is a formal research center with two post-doctoral fellows, six PhD, 7 Masters, and various undergraduate researchers from different academic and professional backgrounds. To organize the different research projects the lab is coordinated by a full time research manager. The IATSL has established relations with several experienced academic researchers at several universities around the world, offering opportunity for both collaboration and support. As a member of the IATSL, I will have access to equipment and facilities required to successfully complete my research.
Supervision
My studies will be supported largely by the efforts and experience of my supervisor. Dr. Mihailidis is an established, seasoned researcher in the field of assistive technologies. Dr. Mihailidis takes an active role in mentoring and challenging his students, and provides support through many methods including formal academic education, group collaboration, direct counsel, independent research, and participation in the academic community through conferences and symposia.
The University of Toronto
Through UofT I have access to the largest academic library system in Canada (ranked 5th in North America) including access to a comprehensive network of online academic resources. Additionally, the university has established connections with numerous universities, institutions and research bases throughout the world.
Affiliations
UofT is affiliated with nine Toronto teaching hospitals. The close relationship between the university and the hospitals will provide me with the ability to take my project beyond research to clinical trials-eventually affecting the lives of Canadians struggling with dementia. Additionally, the IATSL is affiliated with The Alzheimer’s Society of Canada and funded by the American Alzheimer’s Association.
